Teaser Review.. Your Favourite Girl by Steph Sweeney

********EROTICA REVIEW ********************

As you guys all know I LOVE Steph Sweeney’s erotica my reviews are here and here.

I was really excited when I saw this £0.77 teaser on Amazon, as you can imagine it is part of a full book and mixes erotica, fantasy and possible thriller all in one. Melissa discovers that her husband has been cheating on her with an 18 year old girl and after they enjoy a number of threesomes she decides to look through his stuff to find evidence of other girls and that’s when she finds the card for your favourite girl inc and decides to take a trip down to the basement under the jewellery store and that’s where she discovers flora..

I can’t do a full review as I haven’t read the whole book, but what I’ve read so far i have enjoyed. It has been quite a strange story but that has added to the erotica giving it a different dimension, I only want to know where the rest is now!

Book Review…It’s Not Me It’s You by Jon Richardson

I have been a Jon Richardson fan for a couple of years mainly from his role on 8 out of 10 cats but also from seeing bits of his stand up.
After hearing about this book I decided I really should give it a read and although I enjoyed it my mini crush on Jon has now gone.
He is a bit too particular  things have to be in there place for him and it shocked me when he revealed he would be put off a girl if she fell over as he sees that as a failure!
The book focuses on Gemma a girl who works at a local restaurant and gives Jon her number he is torn whether he should date her or not?
But will his thoughts about what will happen to them in 80 years time stop it happening?
This book was funny,  quite shocking and a real insight into this long-term single comedian. If you like a witty narrative and judgemental writing this is for you.

Would I recommend it? Yes

Book Review.. Gravity by Tess Gerritsen

gravity

I do not read space books and despite the title (that I will admit was a HUGE hint of what the book would contain) I didn’t expect this to be one. As Gerritsen had spent a lot of time with NASA to make this book as accurate as possible, it was full of spacey terms and at first a bit hard work.

About 100 pages in though I just all of a sudden fell into the book I was at the point where I understood each character and I was getting used to the terminology (thank you glossary in the back of book) and the gory stuff was happening.

Jack a doctor is thinking about his divorce and about to end his shift when he hears of a 15 car pile up and the wife of astronaut is brought in she falls into a coma. The astronaut Bill is currently in the space station and has to come back home, Dr Emma Watson is his replacement and also the woman Jack is divorcing.

Not long after Emma arrives at the space station one of her colleagues contracts a weird illness and soon other crew members are becoming ill. What’s causing it and will any of them survive?

Once I got into the book the pages just flew by, at times this book was a little hard for me to understand. Although I am stupid I do not have a degree in science, and I felt certain aspects could have been described a bit better.

But this book was definitely good, it’s a real nail biter and just thinking that these characters you’ve become attached too will soon die makes it all the  more interested. I also actually learnt something about space travel.

If you like scientific thrillers (if there is such a genre of book) this is for you, but possibly a little heavy for me. It would not put me off Bloodstream which is waiting on my bedside table.

Would I recommend this book? Yes if you don’t mind checking a glossary every now and then.

Book Review…Copy Cat by Erica Spindler

For Fans of: Karin Slaughter, Richard Montanari

This was the first book I had read by Spindler and although I felt it at times to be a little complex with a few too many characters,  but thus aside I did enjoy it.
The plot focused on Kitt Lungdren a disgraced police officer who had just returned to work after a recovering from alcoholism.
Her old nemesis SAK (the silent angel killer) is back and she is forced on the case. There are so few clues and even fewer links.
There is another woman on the case MC and she is cold and distant she also has an intense dislike for Kitt and her past.  Will they catch the SAK before it’s too late?
Spindler’s writing style us very similar to Richard Montanari with all the usual twists and turns I would expect but at times I felt a little bored by the book and with so many characters I didn’t know who was who at times and some felt a little unnecessary.

Would I recommend this? Yes

Book Review… Postmortem by Patrica Cornwell

200px-PostMortem

As previously mentioned this is the first book I have read by the author and it certainly won’t be the last. This was the first in the Scarpetta series, which is now huge and one can certainly tell it’s from the early 90s. The computer systems described are old and the youth of DNA use is also evident.

The book revolves around a strangler who is killing women believes live on their own, there is also a commissioner who is trying to sabotage  Dr Kay Scarpetta’s career. She also has some concerns regarding Bill Boltz the colleague she is seeing personally.

This book is so clever throughout the majority of it the reader can just not see the connection and I felt the frustration of the detectives. Once I finished this book I actually felt a bit of a chill and could not stop thinking about it.

I think this book will stick with me for a while and I can’t wait to read another one.

Book Finished…. The Faithless by Martina Cole

Cythia always wanted better in life so to be left with like Jimmy was always going to be a disappointed, two children later and she doesn’t love them either. Infact, the only person (apart from herself) who she has ever looked was Johnny P her sister’s husband. She will do anything to get what she wants….

This book was great, very gritty as always with Martina Cole but again very well written. This book explored all of the different characters fully and the story was told by a number of different view points. There was a lot of bad language throughout the book and some of the scenes were quite gruesome… but I love gruesome!

There was a lot of death and even mental illness was written about giving this book a different depth to the previous ones. I would love to read something light hearted by the author though as I think it would be a great read.

As with all Martina Cole I can’t not give it a highscore it was brilliant:

5/5

Book Finished… Dirty Game by Jessie Keane

Annie is in love with her sister’s soon to be husband Max , that’s why on the night before the wedding. Horrified when he virtually throws her out of bed she decides the break the news to Ruth at the ceremony the next day.
She is then cast onto the street by her alcoholic mother Connie and finds herself moving in with her Aunt Celia finding herself sitting between two gangs. One the Delaneys offer protection to the disorderly house, and Max’s family the Carter’s.

I had just finished reading a Martina Cole book and had no idea what to go onto next. I read on a forum that Jessie Keane was similair and this book was recommended. Some parts of it were a bit hard to read particularly when one character is stabbed in a certian place and another one is killed, but I loved these parts. They were so well described and not over dramatic.

One part of the book annoyed me, and that was the fact that Ruth never seemed to get over the fact Annie had slept with Max, it didn’t spoil the book but it could have been dealt with differently. This is the beginning of a kind of trilogy and I will be reading the next two books very soon.

If you are a fan of Martina Cole or Kimberley Chambers, Jessie Keane is definitely for you:

Now Kensuke Okabayashi… Can Make Me into an Artist?

Yesterday I reviewed a video tutorial I had taken by Mark Crilley and under his careful instruction I was able to draw a pretty convincing eye. I was then inspired and decided to delve into the Manga For Dummies book I had on the shelf.

Kensuke Okabayashi is the author of this book and it is filled with her illustrations and thousands of useful hints and tips. As I have no creative ability what so ever I decided to draw a fairly basic manga face with a fancy bow. I know that one of the eyes is too far to the side and the mouth could be better, but on the whole I quite like what I’ve done.

It isn’t as easy to teach someone via  a book as is it video, so I measure this accomplishment almost akin to first eye I draw. Here’s some pictures of the book (and some on the pages I used) and my finished effort. I was bought this book as a present, and I would actually recommend it, but you can decide for yourselves…

Book Finished… Free Falling By Debra Webb

This begins with Alex, Emily and Free watching the new sexy neighbour as he moves in next door to them. Free feels an instant attraction to him even when they have a fight over a tree and end up in jail together. The two of them soon realise they desperately want each other, the thing is they are so unsuitable she is ‘gyspy girl’ and he is a serious business man who focuses on nothing but work. They just have to try and resist each other..

I am not really a romance reader but as this book was only 77p I had had nothing to lose and it was actually really good. The whole time I just wanted them to get together. The sex scenes that were in this book were classy and the Free’s background story was really well written.

I must admit that the book was just a bit ‘nicey nice’ for me, although Faith had a bit of a dark past it wasn’t as edgy as a normal like. Maybe I needed something light hearted and I guess this was the book to do it.

I understand that Debra Webb has written lots of books and I would consider buying another one.

I’d rate this book:

3.5/5
