Northern Rail Fails Again…

For the last couple of years I have been using northern rail to go back and to to Manchester, and I think I could count the number of times I’ve had perfect service on one hand.
If the train isn’t late it is most definitely dirty and on the rare occasion it’s actually clean the heating is either far too high or non existent. Apart from the station staff at Sandbach and the odd team member here and there the staff are extremely rude too.
When I first started university I had a particularly hard time with northern rail.  There was one week I was stuck at a freezing cold station for three days in a row for over two hours a time. On the Saturday night I’d stayed over and when the train going back was over an hour late I made a complaint to the northern rail guy at the station. I wad basically shouted at for the complaint and told to check their website as they had great stats.
First of all there is no way these stats can be true as so many people are dissatisfied with their service.
Northern Rail need to sort themselves out and soon

Middlewich Artisan Market

This market has been around for a number of months, but until this weekend I didn’t have the chance to go. To be honest I thought it would be pretty rubbish, , but it was really good.
I got a beautiful scarf (as did my friend Sarah) for only £5!
The boyfriend bought me a Christmas present early a gorgeous dotty satchel too!
There are some great gift ideas, so head down there on the last Saturday of every month.

Food….. The Midway Stockport

Last night the boyfriend and I chose here for a quick dinner after I’d finished work and choosing this place was a great decision. It is across the road from a council estate so to be honest, being snobs we were not expecting an awful lot but it was great. This is technically a tavern but the dining room is seperate from the pub so we were away from the noise. the food was delicious and good value.

Here’s what we had:

Shared a cheesy garlic bread. This was delicous, and the dressed side salad was also great. 5/5

Me: Smoked Haddock with buttery mash, parsley sauce and poached egg. I don’t often have fish but this was delicious there wasn’t a single bone, the egg was poched to perfection and it was definitely real mash! 5/5

The Boyfriend: Oven baked chicken with mushroom sauce, new potatoes and brocoli. The chicken was nice and moist and the sauce was absolutely delicious. The veg were perfectly cooked and there was plenty of sauce. 5/5

All this with two drinks each for £31, but we were so impressed we left a a £5 tip. GO!

Food…The White Bear in Middlewich

This pub re-opened a few months ago and we have been planning to go ever since so today we thought why not?
This place is smart both inside and out and is very popular throughout the week.
As we entered the building the first thing we heard was a woman screaming at her dog to sit down. When we sat at the table is was dirty but when we asked for it to be wiped it was done straight away. We were quite near the kitchen window and despite the very considerate chef – who although you could hear them working- they were quiet.
The same could not be said for the waitresses one in particular who had blonde hair and was wearing see-through leggings kept shouting things in the kitchen. The chefs kept asking her to be shut up but she didn’t seem to get it.
The food, although badly presently was actually quite pleasant. The chefs were also producing the food at quite a good rate. For the food I would definitely come here again. The desserts were delicious.
The waitress spilt coke all over the table and didn’t even attempt to clean it up, and the waitresses were all in jeans or leggings. I found this quite unprofessional.
The mains were pleasant, the desserts were amazing and everything was local and of good quality.
So I would give this place:
Top marks for the food, just a bit more work on the service.

Food…The John Millington in Cheadle

So as I was working late the b0yfriend and I decided to go out for dinner last night, it was really great to relax after working hard all week. We picked this place at random and it was the perfect choice.

The John Millington is a pub with a seperate dining area and was really busy, but this was purely down to it being a great place. We were sat as soon as we got there and straight away orders were taken food was quick to arrive and it was delicious. Both the boyfriend and I really fancied a steak so we had fillet steaks (me medium rare, him blue) and they were delicous the bernaise sauce that came with them was even better. The only upsetting part of the experience was that I couldn’t eat it all so I had no room left for dessert!

The menu here was great and there was lots of things I would have chosen if I didn’t have a meat craving.

The bill came to roughly £65 (plus £5 tips) and that was for two courses and a glass of wine for me and two large diet cokes for the boyfriend. Here’s what we got for that:

We shared three appetisers:

Mini mac and cheese : delicous the sauce could have been a bit thicker but it was still amazing.

Mini Sausages and BBQ sauce: the sauasages were of excellent quality and went really well with the sauce.

Mini Southern Fried Chicken: perfect bread crumbs and fried to perfection.

Me : Fillet steak Medium Rare with chips bernaise sauce, onions rings and a mushroom. The steak was cooked right too!

The Boyfriend: The same as me but blue.

Me: White wine and lemonade, a little bit dry for me but still lovely and nice and cold.

The Boyfriend: Two Large Diet Cokes

I would give the place a:

Even the toilets were pleasant!

If you find yourself in Manchester leave the city centre and come here instead. Now drool over the pictures.
