Annie is in love with her sister’s soon to be husband Max , that’s why on the night before the wedding. Horrified when he virtually throws her out of bed she decides the break the news to Ruth at the ceremony the next day.
She is then cast onto the street by her alcoholic mother Connie and finds herself moving in with her Aunt Celia finding herself sitting between two gangs. One the Delaneys offer protection to the disorderly house, and Max’s family the Carter’s.
I had just finished reading a Martina Cole book and had no idea what to go onto next. I read on a forum that Jessie Keane was similair and this book was recommended. Some parts of it were a bit hard to read particularly when one character is stabbed in a certian place and another one is killed, but I loved these parts. They were so well described and not over dramatic.
One part of the book annoyed me, and that was the fact that Ruth never seemed to get over the fact Annie had slept with Max, it didn’t spoil the book but it could have been dealt with differently. This is the beginning of a kind of trilogy and I will be reading the next two books very soon.
If you are a fan of Martina Cole or Kimberley Chambers, Jessie Keane is definitely for you:
