I have been meaning to do a post like this for a while and since I am current emerged in a blogging frenzy what better time than now. When I think about books I read as a child/ tween there are three authors that come to mind:
- Lemony Snicket
- Anthony Horowitz
- Meg Cabot
I first came across Lemony Snicket in the school library when I was probably 11/12 and the dark writing instantly connected with me. His Series of Unfortunate Events are outstanding and the Hollywood production starring Jim Carey really does them little justice. I am also planning to go back to these books as an adult.
Granny by Anthony Horowitz (a story based on his real life evil Granny) was book we were made to in class when I was ten. Again the darkness of book make Horowitz a firm favourite the humour in the dark settings made these even more appealing. The dark humour dimension makes these again, something great for adults.
Meg Cabot is almost the complete opposite of these two authors, she specialises in chick lit for adults and girly books for children. The Princess Dairies began as a present, that I couldn’t leave alone and soon I had read all the books you can read my review on one of Cabot’s books for adults HERE.
What are your childhood favourites and why?
